History

After the foundation of the National Iranian Radio & Television in 1966 it was recognized that the institution needed to train manpower that would enter the organization. After preliminary work was carried out, in 1969 the Advanced School of TV and Cinema was founded by graduates working in the industry. The institute began with a one-year short course.

Later this developed into a two-year program. Afterwards master's degrees in educational technology, research in mass communication and electrical engineering were also made available.

After the Islamic Revolution, the need for this institution was only to train human resources within IRIB. The first name of the instiution was the Technical Training Center, which was later changed to IRIB College. In 1982 diploma's in production were promoted to bachelor's degrees and in 1995 and 1996 degree's in technical engineering and film production were added. In 1997 a communcations degree was created to join together academic disciplines.

IRIB also established a broadcasting school in Qom in 1997 which teaches up to degree level.[3]

The college library has more than 30,000 written, audio and visual media sources making it one of the nation's richest libraries.
